Request for Proposals to Commence Business Ventures at Port of Hambantota PDF Print E-mail

The Cabinet Appointed Negotiating Committee (CANC), on behalf of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is pleased to request proposals from international and local firms or consortia to design, build, finance, manage and operate business ventures at the Port of Hambantota.

The construction works of the Phase 1 development of Hambantota Port Project is now nearing completion and this project has been designed to accommodate vessels of nearly 100,000 DWT with the depth of 16m. The Port will be created by the construction of new breakwaters and will be served by a channel with a depth of 17m and a width of 210m. The basin in the initial phase will be nearly 60 ha and will serve a quay length of 600m for general cargo activities and another quay of 610 m for gas and oil. The basin will be dredged to -17m with provisions to deepen it to -21m should new generation of deep drafted vessels come into operation.

Interested parties may inspect the RFP document at the address given below on normal working days between 10.00-16.00 hrs. free of charge,. Bidders may also obtain additional information or seek clarification in writing from:

The RFP document can be obtained from the office of Chief Engineer (Southern Port Development) during 10.00-14.00 hrs of any working day from 17 August-28 September 2010 upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Sri Lanka Rupees 50,000 and applicable VAT.

The completed proposals shall be delivered to the address given below for the attention of the Chairman, Cabinet Appointed Negotiating Committee (CANC), on or before 14.00 hrs on 30 September 2010. The envelopes containing Experience and Technical Proposal will be opened immediately afterwards in the presence of the Bidders' representatives who choose to attend. Late bids will be rejected.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority will not be responsible for any costs or expenses incurred by the bidders in connection with the preparation or delivery of proposals including costs and expenses related to site visits.

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) has been actively involved in the development and promotion of goods and services from Sri Lanka in the international market. The SLEDB has identified professional services, ICT/BPO and the Electronics sectors as priority areas in achieving the economic goals contained in the “Mahinda Chinthanaya Vision for the future”.

One of the key objectives of the National Strategy for Professional Services is to give ample publicity to Sri Lankan professionals and professional service companies among international organizations who are in search of potential service providers of business partners. Promotion internationally of the ICT and Electronics sectors has also been identified as an important issue.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, PERMANENT MISSION OF SRI LANKA TO THE UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK PDF Print E-mail

The Ministry of External Affairs of Sri Lanka has decided to provide an opportunity for internship (non remunerative) to work with the Sri Lanka Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, from 1st September-30th December 2010 during the forthcoming Sixty-Fifth Session of the General Assembly.

The Internship will provide opportunities to obtain an understanding of issues of concern and relevance for
Sri Lanka in an international context. It will also give a first hand experience on issues of concern to the internal community at a global level.

Internship Opportunities PDF Print E-mail

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka has decided to provide an opportunity for those who possess an undergraduate degree, or undergoing post graduate studies, who are citizens or dual citizens of Sri Lanka, to serve as interns (non remunerative) at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York during the period 1st October - 30 December 2009.
