The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) visa processing fees have been revised and the new rates are applicable with effect from 28th December 2015.

You can apply for a visa:

1. Online – Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

2. At the time of arrival at special counters at the airport

The Business ETA issuance at the port of entry (on arrival) has been suspended until further notice.  Issuance of business ETA through Sri Lanka overseas Missions (SLOM) and the Head office of the Department of immigration & Emigration will remain unchanged.

3. ETA through diplomatic missions

(1) Applying online

(i) All foreign nationals intend travelling to Sri Lanka are required to apply for online Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) as appropriate depending on the purpose of travel before their departure to Sri Lanka by logging on to www.eta.gov.lk website. Further details including the relevant applications fees payable are available on the above website. This system is effective from 01.01.2012 and under this facility ETA will be valid up to 30 days only. However travellers who travel under this facility will be able to extend their ETA in case they expect to stay beyond 30 days by applying to the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Colombo up to a maximum period of 06 months from the original date of arrival.

(ii) Those who are not in a position to apply online or unable to submit applications online, may submit applications to the nearest Sri Lankan mission abroad as done in the past so that the respective mission could process their request in consultation with the Department of Immigration and Emigration on behalf of the applicant.

(2) Applying at the time of arrival at special counters at the airport

Those who are not in a position to apply on line, through Sri Lanka diplomatic missions or traveling on an emergency, could apply at a special counter at the airport in Colombo prior to entering into the country.

Documents required:
• Duly filled application -Download application- Schedule i – ETA Application for On Arrival Business/Tourist/Transit
• Payment could be made by VISA,MASTER AND AMERICAN EXPRESS (Credit /Debit Cards)
• Or one of the foreign currencies designated by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka – Schedule ii – Foreign Currencies designated by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka

(3) Applying for ETA through diplomatic missions
Documents required:
(a) Visa for  a period of 30 days

• Duly filled application Visit – Download ETA Application for Tourist Purpose (Individual) or Download ETA Application for Business Purpose (Individual)
• Applicant’s valid passport together with a copy of the passport (six months validity from the date of arrival)
• Appropriate visa fee and return postage /courier charges
• Proof concerning the purpose of the visit /business

Period of validity of visa

When applications are processed through Sri Lankan missions abroad the maximum period of validity of the ETA can be up to 90 days only.

Please ensure to include the ETA Processing fee  together with the postage/courier charges. (ETA Processing fee +postage /courier charges)

Accordingly charges for Australian Nationals –

ETA  Processing Fee: AUD

Postage: AUD 10.00

Total Fee: AUD 

 

(b)  Visa for a period of 90 days.

• Duly filled application Visit – Download ETA Application for Tourist Purpose (Individual)
• Applicant’s valid passport together with a copy of the passport (six months validity from the date of arrival)
• Appropriate visa fee and return postage /courier charges
• Proof concerning the purpose of the visit /business

ETA for Official and Diplomatic passport holders
Diplomatic and Official passport holders if they are travelling for one of the following purposes are also expected to apply for ETA online as per the para (1) above. However if they are travelling on an official government business other than the purposes given below ,they need to apply through the nearest Sri Lanka diplomatic missions if they are travelling for private purposes, issue of ETA on gratis basis could be considered on the basis of reciprocity.

i. Visiting friends and relatives
ii. Sightseeing for Holidaying
iii. Medical treatment
iv. Participation sports, cultural performance
v. Business meeting
vi. Conference, workshop & Seminars
vii. Short training
viii.Participation in art, music and dance

Documents required:
• Duly filled application – Download ETA Application for Official/Deplomatic Purpose (Individual)
• Applicant’s valid passport together with a copy of the passport (six months validity from the date of arrival)
• Formal note from the respective government stating the purpose of the visit
• Appropriate return postage /courier charges
• Fee as appropriate

Method of payment:
Applying in person

Those applying in person at the High Commission could pay the visa fees in cash (AUD) for which an official receipt would be issued.

Applying by post/courier
Those applying for ETA by post/courier should arrange to send visa fee preferably in cash or remit the visa fee along with the postal charges in AUD through a bank transfer to the following bank account of the High Commission. A copy of the deposit slip should also be sent with the passport.
