High Commissioner of Sri Lanka presents Credentials in Samoa

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Australia, Yasoja Gunasekera, with concurrent accreditation to the Independent State of Samoa presented Letters of Credence to His Excellency Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aleto’a Sualauvi II, Head of State of the Independent State of Samoa at the Head of State’s Official Residence in Apia on 30 April 2026.

Following the presentation, a discussion was held between His Excellency Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aleto’a Sualauvi II and High Commissioner Gunasekera during which High Commissioner Gunasekera conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of H.E. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the people of Sri Lanka to the Head of State and the people of Samoa and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Samoa and deepening engagement with the South Pacific region.

Sri Lanka and Samoa have enjoyed warm bilateral relations for the last 12 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 15 August 2014. The two countries share a bond as island nations and are democracies with shared values. Both Sri Lanka and Samoa are members of the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the Non-Aligned Movement  and Sri Lanka participated in the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Apia, Samoa, from 24-26 October 2024. Sri Lanka and Samoa maintain good cooperation in international fora. Both countries have consistently exchanged support for candidatures to various international organizations.  Samoa  shares common challenges with Sri Lanka such as climate related vulnerabilities, disaster preparedness, marine conservation and sustainable oceans.
