Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra Receives UNSW United Nations Society Delegation Under Education Diplomacy Initiative

The Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra received a delegation of undergraduate students from the United Nations Society of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) on 11 September 2026 at the High Commission premises. The visiting delegation was led by Mr. Gene Richards, President of the UN Society of the UNSW, and comprised students pursuing degrees in International Relations and Law.
The visit was organized as part of the High Commission’s ongoing programmes on Education Diplomacy, aiming to foster youth engagement, expand academic outreach, and build stronger institutional ties with Australian higher education institutions.
During the session, the Counsellor of the High Commission, Dinushi Rupathunga, engaged with the delegation in an interactive briefing. She provided the students with a comprehensive overview of Sri Lanka, outlining the country’s socio-political context and cultural heritage, as well as its foreign policy principles and international relations. The Counsellor also highlighted Sri Lanka’s historical contributions to the United Nations system and discussed the multifaceted Sri Lanka – Australia bilateral relationship, focusing on shared priorities across trade, education, and strong people-to-people links.
Following the formal briefing, the undergraduates had the opportunity to experience traditional Sri Lankan delicacies, enjoying authentic Ceylon Tea.
