High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Canberra meets Senator the Hon. Michaelia Cash, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Canberra, Yasoja Gunasekera paid a courtesy call on Senator the Hon. Michaelia Cash at the Parliament of Australia on 6 th February 2026. Senator Cash is the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and a Liberal Senator for Western Australia.

The High Commissioner and the Hon. Senator Cash discussed the bilateral relationship between the two Indian Ocean neighbours. Senator Cash expressed particular interest in increasing tourism flows from Australia to Sri Lanka and expressed interest in direct flights connecting Western Australia to Sri Lanka. Western Australia is the western gateway to Australia and given it’s proximity to Asia has long-standing ties to our region, inlcuding through tourism, trade, investment and international education.
