Sri Lanka Appoints a New Honorary Consul in Brisbane, Queensland

High Commissioner Yasoja Gunasekera handed over the Commission of Appointment to Mr. Nalin Perera, the new Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Brisbane with consular jurisdiction covering Queensland, on 19 February 2026 at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra.

Mr. Perera is a sucessful businessman in the healthcare sector and a philanthropist.  He is active in various professional fora both within the Sri Lankan and Australian communities as well as in the Buddhist society in Australia.

Congratulating the new Honorary Consul on his appointment, High Commissioner Gunasekera stressed the importance of elevating Sri Lanka’s engagement with the State of Queensland. Considering his extensive connections in the business community in Queensland she noted that he is well placed to assist the High Commission in pursuing trade, investment and tourism opportunities for Sri Lanka.

Mr. Perera also expressed interest in facilitating good consular services to the approximately 20,000 strong Sri Lankan community in Queensland, in cooperation with the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra.
