Sri Lanka Appoints a New Honorary Consul in Perth, Western Australia

High Commissioner Yasoja Gunasekera handed over the Commission of Appointment to Mr. Chirantha Weerawardena, the new Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Perth with consular jurisdiction covering Western Australia, today (19/12) at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra.

Mr. Weerawardena is a mining engineer with thirty three years of operational and technical experience in the mining industry and a strong network in that industry. He is a graduate of the University of Moratuwa and holds a Masters of Science degree from Curtin University.

Congratulating the new Honorary Consul on his appointment, High Commissioner Gunasekera stressed the importance of elevating Sri Lanka’s engagement with the State of Western Australia. Considering his extensive experience in the mining industry she noted that he is well placed to assist the High Commission in pursuing investment in the minerals sector in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Weerawardena also expressed interest in facilitating good consular services to the approximately 20,000 strong Sri Lankan community in Western Australia, in cooperation with the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra.
